Holy Family Hospital has received a significant boost to its blood bank following a joint voluntary blood donation exercise organised by MTN Ghana and Buoyem Senior High School. The initiative, which brought together staff of the telecommunications giant and students of the senior high school, forms part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and support emergency response services within the community.
The exercise, held at the premises of Holy Family Hospital, was aimed at replenishing critically low blood reserves and ensuring the availability of safe blood for patients in urgent need. Medical personnel supervised the entire process, conducting thorough health screenings for all prospective donors and ensuring strict adherence to established safety and health protocols.

Head of the Blood Bank at Holy Family Hospital, Alhaji Gariba Mariwan Rauf, expressed profound appreciation to both institutions for what he described as a timely and life-saving intervention. He noted that blood shortages remain a persistent challenge for many health facilities across the country, particularly in handling emergency cases.
According to him, the donated blood units will play a vital role in supporting maternity cases, accident victims, surgical procedures and other critical medical situations. He further emphasised that voluntary blood donation remains one of the most effective ways individuals and institutions can directly contribute to saving lives.

Officials of MTN Ghana indicated that the exercise forms part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda, which prioritises community health and wellbeing. They reaffirmed the company’s commitment to initiatives that create meaningful social impact and encouraged other corporate institutions to institutionalise regular voluntary blood donation programmes.
Leadership of Buoyem Senior High School also underscored the importance of nurturing a culture of volunteerism and civic responsibility among students. School authorities explained that beyond supporting the hospital, the exercise served as a practical learning experience, instilling values of compassion, service and social contribution in the students.
Participants were educated on the importance of regular blood donation and its impact on national health outcomes. Many donors described the experience as fulfilling, expressing readiness to participate in future exercises.
The collaboration between MTN Ghana and Buoyem Senior High School has been widely commended as a model partnership that demonstrates how corporate institutions and educational establishments can work together to strengthen public health systems.

With the renewed supply of blood units, Holy Family Hospital is now better positioned to respond promptly to emergencies and provide critical care to patients who depend on timely transfusions for survival. The initiative stands as a testament to the power of collective action in advancing community healthcare and saving lives.
