MTN Ghana’s flagship Bright Scholarship Awards program continues to transform lives and empower students across the nation, with 94 beneficiaries of the initiative proudly graduating with Second Class Upper Division honours in the 2025 academic year. This milestone reflects MTN’s long-term investment in education and human capital development, as the company continues to provide life-changing opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds.

Since its relaunch in 2018, the MTN Bright Scholarship program has supported 720 students nationwide, fully covering their tuition, accommodation, and providing stipends to enable them to concentrate on their studies without financial constraints. Over the years, the program has not only removed barriers to higher education but also produced exceptional results, including ten valedictorians and best graduating students, and 520 graduates earning First Class Honours. The 94 students who earned Second Class Upper Division degrees this year add to this growing list of academic excellence, showcasing the effectiveness of MTN’s commitment to education.

The announcement was made during the 2025 MTN Bright Scholarship Awards ceremony held on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the Faculty of Law Auditorium, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. Speaking on behalf of MTN Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Blewett, the General Manager of Sustainability and Shared Value, Dr. Isaac Mate, praised the graduates for their dedication and resilience. He noted that the company’s investment in education is a key part of its mission to bridge socio-economic gaps, empower communities, and prepare Ghana’s youth for leadership in various fields.

“This achievement demonstrates that when students are supported with the right resources, they can thrive academically and make meaningful contributions to society. MTN’s Bright Scholarship continues to be a beacon of hope for students and families across the country,” Dr. Mate stated.

The Bright Scholarship, which has been one of the most competitive scholarship schemes in Ghana, received 3,691 applications for the 2025/2026 academic year. After a rigorous selection process, 1,200 candidates were shortlisted for interviews, and 500 students and teachers were ultimately chosen to receive the scholarship. This year’s cohort includes 300 undergraduate students pursuing STEM, vocational, and technical programs, as well as 200 teachers furthering their studies at public universities. Importantly, the initiative remains committed to inclusivity, with 33 differently abled students among the beneficiaries and a gender distribution of 187 females and 313 males.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, who was the special guest of honor at the event, commended MTN for its dedication to addressing educational inequalities in Ghana. He applauded the company’s inclusion of differently abled persons in the selection and stressed the importance of partnerships between the private sector and government in shaping the nation’s future. “MTN is not only investing in education but also correcting foundational inequalities that have held back our progress as a country,” he said.

The ceremony was also an emotional one for many of the beneficiaries and their families, who expressed deep appreciation to MTN for the support. Several students shared how the scholarship had lifted heavy financial burdens, allowing them to focus entirely on their academics. Their heartfelt testimonies highlighted the program’s transformative impact, not only on individuals but on entire communities.

Since its inception, MTN’s Bright Scholarship has evolved beyond a financial support program into a symbol of equity, empowerment, and hope for students nationwide. The initiative’s proven track record, including this year’s 94 graduates with Second Class Upper honours, demonstrates its far-reaching benefits and its role in shaping a brighter future for Ghana’s youth.

With plans to expand the program to cover 1,500 beneficiaries over the next three years, MTN Ghana continues to champion education as a powerful tool for development. The success of the Bright Scholarship Awards stands as a testament to the company’s vision of creating opportunities for all and building a strong foundation for national growth.
