Mentally ill woman kills son over missing sugar

Police in Lilongwe are searching for a 26-year old mentally ill woman for allegedly killing her nine-year old son over sugar.

The suspect, Enifa Tiferanji, allegedly flogged to death Yohane Yokoniya on Monday October 31 2022 at Msangwa Village Traditional Authority Kalolo in the district.

Prior to the murder, the suspect reportedly went out on a begging errand at Namitondo Trading Centre.

On her return, she discovered that her son, Yokoniya, had helped himself to the sugar she had previously left.

Enraged, Tiferanji pushed the child down and started assaulting him in the head in the presence of her 13-year old daughter.

She stopped the beatings when the victim became unconscious, and she instantly escaped.

Some villagers took the victim to St. Gabriel Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.

Postmortem examination indicated that the boy had died as a result of severe head injuries.

Once arrested, Tiferanji could be charged with murder.
