Men Urged to Take Full Responsibility for Pregnancy and Childbirth – Rev. Nsiah Afriyie
The Chairman of the Evergreen Grace Love Foundation, Rev. Nsiah Afriyie, has strongly urged men to take full responsibility for pregnancy and childbirth, condemning the growing practice where some men impregnate women and abandon them during pregnancy or at the point of delivery.

Speaking to the media during the Foundation’s visit to the Mother and Baby Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Rev. Afriyie described irresponsible fatherhood as a serious social problem that continues to worsen the suffering of women, particularly during labour and postnatal care.

According to him, it is unacceptable for men to walk away from their responsibilities after impregnating women, leaving them to struggle alone through the physical, emotional, and financial challenges associated with childbirth. He stressed that pregnancy and delivery are not burdens meant for women alone, but shared responsibilities that require the active support of fathers.

Rev. Afriyie cautioned men who are not ready to assume fatherhood responsibilities to act responsibly and avoid putting women through unnecessary hardship. He emphasized that women should not be left to endure the difficulties of labour, delivery, and postnatal care without the support of their partners. He further warned men who are not prepared for fatherhood to “act responsibly and refrain from impregnating women if they are not ready to take full responsibility for pregnancy and childbirth.”

He further noted that the abandonment of pregnant women often results in severe stress, inability to pay hospital bills, and emotional trauma, especially for mothers who give birth in health facilities. Such situations, he said, undermine efforts to improve maternal and child health outcomes in the country.

Rev. Afriyie called on society, religious bodies, and community leaders to intensify education on responsible fatherhood, stressing that men must be held accountable for their actions. He urged men to support their partners throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period to ensure the wellbeing of both mother and child.

The Evergreen Grace Love Foundation, through its maternal health advocacy and humanitarian interventions, continues to champion the welfare of women and children, while calling for stronger social responsibility and collective support systems to protect mothers during one of the most critical periods of their lives.
