The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, has called for stronger teamwork, renewed commitment and the adoption of digital innovation as key drivers of Kumasi’s growth and development, as he engaged management of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) at a New Year meeting.

The engagement, held at the Assembly, brought together management members and heads of departments, with the Metropolitan Coordinating Director, Mr. Francis Dwira Darko, in attendance. The meeting formed part of efforts to align institutional priorities and set a clear development agenda for the year ahead.

In his address, Hon. Ofori-Agyemang Boadi emphasized that effective teamwork across departments is essential for the successful implementation of Assembly programmes and policies. He urged staff at all levels to work collaboratively, uphold professionalism and demonstrate a shared sense of responsibility in advancing the development of the metropolis.

The Mayor identified sanitation improvement as a critical priority, noting that a clean environment is fundamental to public health, urban safety and the image of Kumasi as Ghana’s cultural and commercial capital. He encouraged departments responsible for environmental management to intensify their operations and explore innovative solutions to address sanitation challenges across the city.

Hon. Ofori-Agyemang Boadi also highlighted staff welfare and motivation as key pillars of institutional performance. He assured workers of management’s commitment to creating a conducive working environment that values dedication, enhances morale and improves productivity.

A major focus of the meeting was the need for the Assembly to fully embrace digital innovation to improve service delivery, internal communication and public engagement. The Mayor called on departments to leverage digital platforms to increase efficiency, transparency and responsiveness, while strategically promoting Kumasi’s economic and investment opportunities to attract investors.

The Metropolitan Coordinating Director, Mr. Francis Dwira Darko, stressed the importance of coordination and alignment of departmental activities with the Assembly’s development agenda. He encouraged heads of departments to ensure that their work plans and programmes reflect the Mayor’s vision and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the metropolis.

Following the meeting, the Mayor and the Coordinating Director toured selected offices and departments within the Assembly to wish staff well for the New Year, interact directly with workers and assess operational needs. The tour also provided management with first-hand insight into challenges facing departments and areas requiring support.

Heads of departments used the opportunity to present brief outlines of their planned activities for the year, demonstrating how their initiatives align with the Assembly’s strategic priorities. Management reaffirmed its collective commitment to teamwork, accountability and results-oriented leadership in delivering efficient and responsive services to the people of Kumasi.
