The Electoral Commission (EC) of the OTEC School of Journalism and Communication Studies has officially opened nominations for the 2026 Students’ Representative Council (SRC) elections, setting March 23, 2026, as the date for the highly anticipated polls.

The announcement signals the commencement of the institution’s electoral calendar and the beginning of a new leadership transition process within the SRC. Students are expected to elect a fresh team of executives to steer the affairs of the student body for the next academic year.

Speaking on the development, the Chairperson of the EC, Prince Owusu Sekyere, disclosed that nominations opened on Monday and will close on Thursday. He explained that prospective candidates will be required to complete the necessary processes within the stipulated period before proceeding to the next stage of the election.

Mr. Sekyere indicated that several key positions are open for contest, including SRC President, General Secretary, Organizer, Chaplain, Treasurer, Women’s Commissioner, and Public Relations Officer (PRO). He further noted that all aspirants will undergo a vetting process to ascertain their eligibility and readiness to serve before being approved to contest in the main elections.

Assuring students of a credible exercise, the EC Chairperson emphasized the Commission’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and accountability throughout the electoral process. He reiterated that measures have been put in place to guarantee a peaceful and smooth poll on election day.

He encouraged qualified and passionate students to step forward and offer themselves for service, stressing that leadership within the SRC provides an opportunity to advocate for student welfare and contribute meaningfully to institutional development.

The SRC remains the official representative body of students, serving as a bridge between the student population and school management. It plays a central role in addressing student concerns, promoting academic and social initiatives, and safeguarding the general welfare of the student community.

With the election timetable now rolled out, anticipation is steadily building across campus. Members of the school community are hopeful that the electoral process will be orderly and that the next SRC leadership will uphold the values of accountability, inclusiveness, and effective representation.
