Manso Watreso Residents Call on Government to Construct Bridge or Culvert to Ease Mobility Challenges

Residents of Manso Watreso, a farming community in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region, are appealing to the government to urgently construct a bridge or culvert to address severe mobility challenges that have left the area isolated and struggling with dangerous road conditions.

The absence of a proper bridge has forced residents to rely on long and treacherous alternative routes to access the main Obuasi road, a situation that has not only increased transportation costs but also posed serious safety hazards. Schoolchildren, the elderly, and pregnant women are among those most affected, with many residents fearing that a fatal accident could occur if swift action is not taken.

In an interview with the media, the Unit Committee Chairman of Manso Watreso, Mr. Martin Osei Owusu, revealed that a concerned philanthropist recently attempted to alleviate the problem by filling the area with sand and gravel after removing a dangerous makeshift wooden ladder. However, he stressed that this intervention is only a short-term measure. “We urgently need a concrete bridge or culvert to make this road safe and sustainable. Without it, the community will continue to face serious risks to life and property. Children and the aged are especially vulnerable, and we fear tragic accidents if nothing is done soon,” Mr. Osei Owusu said.

Some frustrated road users also spoke to  Newsmen, lamenting years of neglect and expressing hope that their collective plea would finally catch the attention of authorities. They believe that fixing the road will not only save lives but also boost socio-economic activities in the area, especially since the community is a major supplier of food crops and raw materials to nearby towns.

The residents are therefore calling on the Amansie South District Assembly, the Ministry of Roads and Highways, and other relevant agencies to prioritize the construction of a durable bridge or culvert. They believe such a project will restore safe access, reduce travel time and costs, and improve living conditions for the entire community.

For now, however, Manso Watreso remains cut off by a dangerous crossing, and residents continue to pray that authorities will intervene before the situation leads to a disaster.
