The Member of Parliament for Manso Nkwanta Constituency in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region Hon.Goerge Obeng Takyi has lead a stakeholders summit on proposed festival “Sika Afahye” seeking to formalise small scale mining activities in the Constituency that would benefit the indigens,future generations and protect the environment.
There is the need to put up mechanisms into gold mining activities that would seek to benefit the indigens of Mansoman and Ghana as a whole,he said consultations are ongoing on how gold would be extracted without the usual Mercury and cyanide which turns to be toxic when release into the environment.
He insisted that people in the area must benefit directly from mining and through the Festival (Sika Afahye) mobilization fund would be set up for Mansoman, through which the proceedings would be used to better the living conditions of the people in the area.
According to him the “Sika Afahye”would be celebrated each year and people from all walks of lives through the festival would know the history behind gold mining activities in the area.
The summit saw over 95 %of chiefs in the area present to deliberate and generate ideas seeking to ensure successful implementation of the of the festival (Sika Afahye).
Hon.George Kwabena Obeng Takyi spoke to the media after the summit further explained that,the festival would be a cooperate body of it own without any political interference.
Some of the chiefs who attended the summit also shared their thoughts to media.
