Manso Mem, a community in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region, has taken a significant step towards environmental cleanliness and grassroots development with the official inauguration of the Lovers Fun Club, a youth-driven initiative aimed at promoting sanitation and community advancement.

The colourful ceremony, which brought together residents, opinion leaders, traditional authorities, and members of various fun clubs across the district, marked a renewed commitment by the youth to play an active role in addressing sanitation challenges and advancing development within the community.

Founded on the vision of mobilising residents—particularly the youth—towards collective action, the Lovers Fun Club seeks to champion proper waste management practices, promote environmental awareness, and support initiatives that will enhance the general wellbeing of the people of Manso Mem.

Speaking at the event, the Patron of the club, Rev. George Kwame Boateng, underscored the importance of community-led efforts in driving sustainable development. He noted that while government intervention remains crucial, local participation and commitment are equally essential in transforming communities.

Rev. Boateng encouraged members of the club to remain steadfast in their mission and to serve as agents of positive change. He further advised the youth to embrace discipline, hard work, and unity, while cautioning them against drug abuse and other social vices that could jeopardise their future and hinder community progress. He also called on residents who are yet to join the Lovers Fun Club to do so, in order to strengthen collective efforts towards championing development in the area.

The Founder and President of the Lovers Fun Club, Mrs. Kate Nsowaa, outlined the core objectives of the group, emphasising its commitment to improving sanitation and advocating for development in the community. She expressed concern over the sanitation challenges confronting Manso Mem and stressed the need for immediate and sustained action.

Mrs. Nsowaa appealed to the government, non-governmental organisations, and other stakeholders to support the club’s activities by providing essential sanitation logistics, including dustbins, a sanitation truck, and wheelbarrows, to facilitate effective waste collection and disposal.

She also highlighted the pressing issue of youth unemployment, revealing that several members of the club are graduates who remain without jobs despite their qualifications. She called for urgent interventions to create employment opportunities for young people in the district, noting that economic empowerment is key to sustainable development.

Touching on social concerns, Mrs. Nsowaa advised young girls in the community to remain focused on their education and avoid teenage pregnancy, which she noted could derail their future aspirations. She further urged parents and guardians to provide proper guidance, support, and supervision for their children.

Beyond sanitation and development advocacy, Mrs. Nsowaa disclosed that the club is also committed to humanitarian activities aimed at supporting vulnerable groups within society. She explained that the club undertakes initiatives such as supporting prisoners, settling hospital bills for indigent patients, and providing educational assistance, including the donation of teaching and learning materials as well as scholarships for brilliant but needy students within the district.

“These are humanitarian interventions we are undertaking to support society. We are appealing to the government and other stakeholders to assist us so we can extend our support to more underprivileged people,” she added.

In his remarks, the Chief of Manso Ankam, Nana Kwaantwi Ampomah, who graced the occasion as a special guest, commended the founders and members of the Lovers Fun Club for the initiative. He described the formation of the club as timely and essential, given the developmental needs of the area.

Nana Kwaantwi Ampomah urged other youth groups and community-based organisations to emulate the example set by the Lovers Fun Club by actively contributing to the growth and development of their communities. He also cautioned the youth against drug abuse, warning that such habits could have devastating consequences on their lives and the future of the community.

The event also served as a platform for residents to reiterate concerns over inadequate infrastructure, particularly the poor state of roads in the area, which they say continues to impede development and limit access to essential services.

The inauguration was marked by a vibrant and festive atmosphere, with the presence of several fun clubs, community groups, and well-wishers who came to support the newly formed Lovers Fun Club. Activities included a fundraising session, presentation of gifts by residents and various groups, and a lively dancing competition among participating fun clubs, adding colour and excitement to the occasion.

The establishment of the Lovers Fun Club is expected to play a pivotal role in promoting sanitation awareness, strengthening community participation, and driving development initiatives in Manso Mem. With the collective efforts of its members and support from stakeholders, the club is poised to become a catalyst for positive change in the Amansie South District.
