Manso Kumpese and Nyankomase Residents, Unit Committee Members and Assembly Member Undertake Massive Clean-Up Exercise

In a powerful demonstration of civic responsibility and unity, residents of Manso Kumpese and Nyankomase in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region have undertaken a massive clean-up exercise to improve sanitation and promote environmental health in their communities.
The community-driven initiative, held on Saturday, saw the active involvement of residents across all age groups — including youth, elders, Unit Committee members, and local leaders — working side-by-side with their Assembly Member, Hon. Stephen Nsiah Kesse of the Akwasiso Kumpese Electoral Area.
From the early hours of the morning, volunteers armed with brooms, hoes, shovels, and wheelbarrows cleaned major streets and public spaces, cleared overgrown bushes, desilted choked gutters, and removed accumulated refuse from key parts of the community. The clean-up was especially crucial as the rainy season approaches, bringing with it the threat of sanitation-related diseases.
Organizers of the event said the initiative was a direct response to the deteriorating sanitation situation in the area, which they feared could lead to serious health challenges if left unaddressed.
“We came together because the environment was getting out of hand. Gutters were choked, refuse was everywhere, and the health of our children and families was at risk. We knew something had to be done — and we chose to do it ourselves,” said one participant.
A youth volunteer added, “This is our community. It is not the job of only the Assembly or the government. We’ve decided to make this a regular activity to keep our environment clean and safe.”
Hon. Stephen Nsiah Kesse, who was on the ground supervising and participating in the exercise, praised the community for their strong spirit of volunteerism and sense of ownership. He emphasized the importance of community participation in addressing development challenges and called on other towns in the district to follow the example set by Manso Kumpese and Nyankomase.
“This is what true leadership and active citizenship look like,” Hon. Kesse said. “Sanitation is a shared responsibility. What we’ve seen here today shows what we can achieve when we unite for a common goal. I am very proud of my people.”
He further assured residents of his continued support in mobilizing resources, including cleaning tools and waste bins, and pledged to work with the Amansie South District Assembly to institutionalize the monthly clean-up exercises.
The effort, which transformed the landscape of the communities in just a few hours, ended with residents expressing joy and pride in their collective achievement. Many noted that the clean-up had not only beautified the area but also fostered stronger community bonds.
“This is just the beginning. We’ll keep doing this until our town becomes the cleanest in the district,” a local youth leader vowed.
The successful exercise has already drawn the attention of neighboring communities, with leaders expressing interest in replicating the initiative — proving that true development begins at the grassroots level, with the people themselves taking the lead.
