Manso Koninase Chief, Queen Mother, Assemblyman, and Youth Embark on Massive Clean-Up Exercise — Monthly Campaign Launched to Promote Sanitation, Cultural Pride, and Local Development

In a bold and unified move towards improving sanitation and promoting community development, the people of Manso Koninase have launched a monthly clean-up campaign, led by their traditional and local government leaders. The initiative, championed by the Chief, Queen Mother, Assembly Member, Unit Committee, and the youth, forms part of a renewed commitment to environmental cleanliness, cultural preservation, and sustainable growth.

The maiden exercise, launched on the occasion of Akwasidae, witnessed widespread participation from residents who cleared choked gutters, swept streets, and tidied public spaces, reflecting a renewed sense of civic responsibility and communal unity.

The initiative is expected to be held every Akwasidae Sunday, instilling discipline, pride, and ownership among community members as Manso Koninase works to improve public health and stimulate economic activity through a cleaner and more organized environment.

Speaking at the launch, Nana Agyei Mensah Bonsu III, Chief of Manso Koninase, urged the people to embrace communal labour and play active roles in the town’s development. He emphasized that lasting transformation must be initiated and sustained by the people themselves. “If we want real development, it must start with us. We cannot always wait for help from outside. When we work together as a community, we build a future we can all be proud of,” the Chief said.

Hon. Joseph Prempeh, Assembly Member for Manso Koninase, also addressed the gathering and used the platform to appeal to large-scale mining companies operating in the area. He called on them to consider employing the local youth to help curb unemployment and reduce social tensions. “We are calling on mining companies to look within our community and give our young people the chance to work. It’s time we benefit from the resources around us,” he stated.

The Queen Mother, Nana Amonu Gyamfua, together with Unit Committee Chairman Mr. Mark Duut, expressed concern about the gradual loss of traditional values among the youth. She encouraged parents and community leaders to teach and uphold local customs. “Our traditions are our legacy. Let’s protect them, teach them, and celebrate them so our children know who they are and where they come from,” she passionately urged.

Adding to the community’s concerns, Mr. Mark Duut, a Unit Committee Member, called on the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to resolve the persistent power outages affecting the area. “Frequent blackouts are hindering business operations and affecting the quality of life here. We are appealing to ECG to address this problem promptly,” he said.

The launch of the monthly clean-up exercise is expected to set a precedent for other community-led initiatives in Manso Koninase, aimed at achieving a cleaner, culturally grounded, and economically vibrant future.
