Mansa Memorial Hospital, Prince Asamany Foundation Lead Free Cervical Cancer Screening in Akyawkrom

The Mansa Memorial Hospital at Akyawkrom, in collaboration with the Prince Asamany Foundation, has organised a free cervical cancer screening exercise to promote early detection and prevent the disease among women in the Ejisu Municipal of the Ashanti Region.
The exercise formed part of ongoing efforts to educate women on the importance of regular screening and preventive healthcare. Health professionals at the event emphasised that cervical cancer remains one of the leading causes of death among women, largely due to late diagnosis, despite being preventable when detected early.

A Senior Midwife at the Mansa Memorial Hospital, Madam Akua Nyarko Antwi, urged women to prioritise routine cervical cancer screening and regular medical check-ups. She explained that early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes and saves lives, stressing that many deaths could be avoided if women reported for screening in good time.
Madam Antwi made the call during the screening exercise held at Akyewkrom, noting that cervical cancer often develops without early symptoms. She therefore advised women, particularly those of reproductive age, not to wait until symptoms appear before seeking medical attention.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of the Prince Asamany Foundation, Mr. Prince Asamany, described the foundation as a community-focused humanitarian organisation committed to improving lives through health, education and social support. He stated that the foundation places strong emphasis on protecting families, empowering women and saving lives.

Mr. Asamany explained that the objective of the free screening exercise was to create awareness, remove fear and misconceptions surrounding cervical cancer, and help women access early screening services. He stressed that access to basic healthcare and timely health information should be available to everyone.
On his part, the Administrator of the Mansa Memorial Hospital, Mr. Emmanuel Oti Agyekum, reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to women’s health and preventive care. He disclosed that the facility organises free health screening exercises for women on the last day of every month.

Mr. Agyekum added that the hospital regularly engages qualified health professionals with expertise in cervical cancer screening to ensure accurate diagnosis and quality healthcare delivery. He encouraged women in Akyewkrom and surrounding communities to take advantage of the initiative and prioritise their health.
