Man Reportedly Jumps to Death from Dimples Overpass in Achimota: Eyewitness Recounts Tragic Scene

A sombre atmosphere engulfed the Achimota stretch of the Accra–Nsawam Highway on Tuesday morning when a man, believed to be in his early thirties, reportedly jumped to his death from the Dimples Overpass. The incident, which happened in the early hours, brought traffic to a halt and left scores of bystanders in shock.

Eyewitnesses say the man was first spotted pacing along the edge of the overpass, seemingly lost in thought. Some commuters, alarmed by his behaviour, shouted and gestured for him to move away from the ledge. Unfortunately, their pleas came too late.

“He stood there for a while, just looking down. You could tell something was wrong, but no one could reach him in time. Before anyone knew it, he was gone,” one witness, who was on her way to work, recounted with visible distress.

Emergency services rushed to the scene moments after the incident was reported. The Ghana Police Service quickly cordoned off the area while paramedics made attempts to resuscitate the man. Sadly, all efforts proved futile, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man’s identity remains unknown as authorities continue their investigations. It is not yet clear what led to the tragic event, but the police have assured the public that all possible circumstances will be examined.

In the wake of the incident, mental health advocates have urged Ghanaians to be more attentive to signs of emotional distress among friends, colleagues, and relatives. They have called on the public to encourage open conversations about mental health and to seek timely professional help when needed.

The Dimples Overpass, a vital connector between Achimota and other parts of Accra, was briefly closed to traffic following the incident, causing significant delays in the morning commute. Police have since reopened the road but are appealing for any information that could assist their investigation.

Anyone with relevant details is encouraged to contact the nearest police station.
