Madina Police Inspector Arrested for Threatening Wife with Service Pistol Over Alleged Infidelity

A disturbing case of domestic violence involving a police officer has shaken the Madina community in the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipality. On Saturday, August 2, 2025, Inspector Daniel Agyemang, a serving officer with the Ghana Police Service, was arrested after he allegedly threatened to shoot his wife, Madam Patricia Owusu, during a heated confrontation at their home.

The incident, which reportedly stemmed from suspicions of infidelity, quickly escalated into a dangerous altercation when Inspector Agyemang, in a fit of rage, drew his service pistol and pointed it at his wife. According to eyewitnesses, Madam Owusu managed to escape from the house while screaming for help, drawing the attention of concerned neighbors.

Alarmed by the intensity of the situation, residents promptly called the police. Officers from the Madina Divisional Police Command responded swiftly and were able to intervene before the incident turned fatal. Inspector Agyemang was immediately disarmed and taken into custody.

Confirming the arrest, DSP Samuel Boateng, Madina Divisional Police Commander, stated that the Ghana Police Service views the matter with utmost seriousness, especially because it involves one of their own. “The actions of Inspector Agyemang, if proven true, are not only a gross misconduct but a betrayal of the very oath he took to protect life and property,” DSP Boateng said.

During preliminary interrogation, Inspector Agyemang allegedly confessed to being overwhelmed with anger after discovering intimate messages exchanged between his wife and another man. He admitted to losing control but maintained that he had no real intention of pulling the trigger.

The Ghana Police Service has since suspended Inspector Agyemang from duty pending a full internal investigation. DSP Boateng emphasized that disciplinary measures will be enforced, and the officer will face criminal prosecution if found guilty of misconduct and threatening violence.

Meanwhile, Madam Patricia Owusu has been placed under police protection for her safety. She is said to be traumatized but recovering steadily under the care of relatives and counselors.

Community members revealed that the couple’s marriage had been turbulent in recent months, with frequent loud arguments and tension within their household. “We’ve heard them fight before, but this time it nearly cost a life,” a neighbor told reporters.

This incident has reignited national discussions about domestic violence, mental health among law enforcement officers, and the need for stronger support systems for victims. Many Ghanaians are calling for thorough investigations and swift justice to ensure accountability.

As the investigation continues, there is growing public concern about how officers with access to firearms and authority are being psychologically assessed and monitored. The outcome of this case is expected to have far-reaching implications for the Ghana Police Service and its policies on officer conduct both on and off duty. The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to remain calm and assured that justice will be served without fear or favor.
