The Dental Department recently organised a mini staff durbar and handover ceremony at the Psychiatry Department Conference Hall to mark a key leadership transition. The event brought together staff and management to celebrate the achievements of outgoing leaders and welcome the newly appointed heads of the department.

Outgoing Head of the Dental Department, Dr. Matthew Boamah, described his tenure as an honour. He revealed that he assumed the leadership role unexpectedly, learning management responsibilities on the job due to the absence of formal leadership training. Dr. Boamah expressed gratitude to the staff for their support and highlighted the crucial role of patience and teamwork in improving service delivery, noting recent progress despite challenges related to space and infrastructure.
The outgoing Head of New Allied, Dr. Kenneth Badu, also reflected on his leadership experience, emphasising that patience and humility guided his journey. He encouraged staff to continue working together to maintain a supportive and productive work environment.

Deputy Director of Medical Affairs, Dr. Harry Akoto, commended the outgoing leaders for their dedication and urged the new heads to involve staff in decision-making and delegate responsibilities to foster effective teamwork.

New Head of the Dental Department, Dr. R. N. A. Taylor Dawson, outlined her vision for the department, presenting a detailed assessment of its current state. She emphasised the need for a comprehensive status evaluation to establish a baseline, identify priority gaps, and guide the department’s future direction. Dr. Dawson highlighted that the most effective way to predict the future is to actively shape it using existing data and knowledge.

The ceremony concluded with heartfelt appreciation for the outgoing leaders and strong encouragement for the incoming leadership, as staff reaffirmed their commitment to teamwork and improving service delivery across the department.
