Land Grab Scandal Hits State Experimental School: MP Stephen Amoah Appeals to Kumasi Mayor for Urgent Intervention

State Experimental School in Nhyiaeso has been rocked by a controversial land grab scandal, prompting a passionate appeal from the Member of Parliament for the area, Dr. Stephen Amoah, to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to take immediate action in reclaiming the encroached land.

The land, which forms part of the school’s property, was allegedly sold to a private developer under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration. According to Dr. Amoah, the transaction was cloaked under the guise of a rezoning exercise, a move he described as unjustifiable and detrimental to the future of the educational facility.

Speaking at the commissioning of a newly constructed 33-unit classroom block for the school, Dr. Amoah did not mince words as he expressed his deep frustration over the sale of the land. He labeled the decision as “wicked” and accused those responsible of disregarding the educational needs of the community for personal gain.

“I have done everything within my capacity to prevent this from happening, but all efforts have proven futile. The land is meant for the future expansion of this great institution and should not have been touched,” he lamented.

Dr. Amoah used the occasion to make a heartfelt plea to the Kumasi Mayor, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to step in and reverse the sale. He emphasized that the land is vital for planned extension projects and other infrastructural developments that are critical to the school’s long-term growth.

“The Assembly must act swiftly to reclaim this land. Our children’s future depends on it. We cannot allow a few individuals to rob this school and the community of such a valuable asset,” Dr. Amoah implored.

The MP’s concerns have reignited public discourse on the safeguarding of public assets, especially properties allocated for educational and community development purposes. Many stakeholders, including parents and old students of the State Experimental School, have also expressed outrage over the alleged sale, calling on authorities to conduct a full investigation into the matter.

Dr. Amoah’s appeal underscores the crucial need for collaboration between Members of Parliament, Metropolitan Assemblies, and relevant state agencies to protect public property and ensure they are used for their intended purposes. It also raises pressing questions about the transparency of land transactions involving public institutions.

As the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly weighs its response, many in the Nhyiaeso constituency are watching closely, hopeful that the land will be reclaimed and preserved for the benefit of the school and future generations.

The scandal adds to growing concerns about land management in urban areas, particularly around educational institutions where land is increasingly becoming a target for commercial interests. The outcome of this case could set a significant precedent for how similar disputes are handled in the future.

For now, the fate of the school land remains uncertain, but the call for justice has been clearly sounded.
