Kwasi Appiah, former Black Stars coach and Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) executive committee (Exco) member, will lead Sudan’s senior national team against Ghana in an AFCON qualifier at Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, October 11, 2024.
Football pundits argue that this encounter is a test of professionalism for the Kumasi Kotoko legend and Interim Management Committee (IMC) member.
As a Ghanaian and GFA Exco member, Appiah has a vested interest in Ghana’s success.
However, with his future job prospects at stake and FIFA/CAF regulations prohibiting matches of convenience, Appiah must prioritize professionalism.
Should Kwasi Appiah have resigned from GFA Exco?
As an Exco member, Appiah is responsible for ensuring national teams succeed. This situation raises questions: Will Appiah choose nationalism or professionalism?.
Resigning from the GFA Exco earlier could have avoided this predicament.
Conclusion
As an Asante Kotoko fan, I wish Appiah well, but as a Ghanaian nationalist, I do not want Sudan to beat or draw with Ghana, especially not at Accra Sports Stadium this Thursday or in the second leg on October 14, 2024, at Martyrs of Benina Stadium in Benghazi, Libya.
