Kwasi Addai Odike Backs Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum for NPP Flagbearer: “He’s the Leader Ghana Needs”

Renowned businessman and political figure, Kwasi Addai Odike, has publicly endorsed Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum as the ideal candidate to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general elections, describing him as a transformational leader with a proven record of delivery.

Addressing a group of journalists in Kumasi, Mr. Odike, who is also the founder of the United Progressive Party (UPP), expressed his admiration for Dr. Adutwum’s leadership style, humility, and dedication to national development, particularly in the area of education. He said that the NPP—and by extension, Ghana—requires a visionary leader like Dr. Adutwum, whose policy-driven approach and results-oriented leadership can restore public confidence in governance.

“Among all the names being floated within the NPP as potential presidential candidates, none comes close to Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum in terms of integrity, competence, and vision,” Odike stated. “This is someone who rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most respected Education Ministers in our country’s history.”

He commended Dr. Adutwum for spearheading major educational reforms, including the massive push for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, the establishment of model STEM schools, and the reorientation of secondary and tertiary curricula to meet global standards.

Odike further emphasized that beyond his professional qualifications, Dr. Adutwum has a natural ability to bring people together. “The NPP needs a unifier—a leader who can heal internal cracks and rally all factions behind a common goal. Dr. Adutwum is that person,” he said.

The endorsement by Odike is being interpreted as a significant development, especially considering his wide influence among grassroots traders, youth groups, and some traditional leaders in the Ashanti Region. Several market women and party delegates present at the media briefing cheered loudly in support of the announcement.

Odike also urged NPP delegates across the country to look beyond personality politics and consider a candidate who can appeal to a broad spectrum of voters—youth, professionals, civil servants, and floating voters alike.

“As we prepare for the January 31, 2026 NPP presidential primaries, I call on delegates to do what is best for Ghana. Dr. Adutwum represents a new dawn—not only for the NPP but for the entire nation,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, political analysts are observing growing momentum around Dr. Adutwum’s undeclared campaign, with increasing endorsements from within and outside the party. The coming months are expected to be decisive as more aspirants officially enter the race for the NPP’s flagbearership.
