Education has once again received a major boost as eleven tertiary students have had their school fees paid in full through the combined efforts of Kwame Agyenim Boateng, a journalist with OTEC 102.9 FM, and the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the OTEC School of Journalism and Communication Studies. The intervention was part of the journalist’s annual “Back to School Campaign,” which this year raised an impressive GH₵11,200 to support brilliant but needy students.

The campaign, which has over the years grown into a beacon of hope for struggling students, drew support from individuals and philanthropists who share in the vision of creating opportunities through education. Major donors included Mr. Emmanuel Boakye Fampem, Chief Executive Officer of Fapem Constructions; Mr. Kwaku Owusu Boateng, popularly known as KOB, host of OTEC FM’s flagship morning show; philanthropist Paa Frank from Kunsu; Akakpo Gerhard; and Mama Unice. Their contributions came together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the selected beneficiaries.

On Thursday, September 11, 2025, the funds were officially presented to the SRC executives of the institution by Mr. Agyenim Boateng, who underscored the importance of the gesture. He explained that the campaign was inspired by a passion to remove financial barriers that prevent students from achieving their academic potential. He noted that education was the key to building a better society and called on the beneficiaries to make good use of the support by working hard and committing themselves fully to their studies.

“We are thrilled to support these brilliant but needy students. Education is the foundation for personal and national development, and it is our prayer that this opportunity will motivate the students to push harder, excel in their academics, and give back to society in the future,” he remarked.

The SRC President, Dickson Mensah, speaking at the ceremony, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the donors, describing the intervention as timely and impactful. He revealed that the SRC had set up a scholarship account with the aim of providing ongoing support to financially disadvantaged students. He further appealed to corporate institutions, philanthropic organizations, and individuals to contribute to the fund to ensure that no student’s dream is cut short due to lack of money.

“The support we have received through this campaign has eased a huge burden for many of our colleagues. We are grateful to every single donor who made this possible. We believe this is only the beginning, and with continued support, we can build a sustainable scholarship scheme that will benefit generations of students,” he stated.

The “Back to School Campaign” continues to emphasize the power of community-driven initiatives in transforming lives. By fostering collaboration between media professionals, educational leaders, and philanthropists, the initiative has once again demonstrated that when people come together for a common cause, significant barriers to education can be overcome.

For the eleven beneficiaries, the payment of their fees is more than just financial relief; it is a vote of confidence in their abilities and a reminder that society values their aspirations. The initiative not only strengthens the resolve of the students to excel academically but also inspires others to step forward and support education as a shared responsibility.

As the campaign gains momentum year after year, it serves as a model of how partnerships can create lasting impact. Kwame Agyenim Boateng’s collaboration with the SRC marks a significant milestone in the effort to support brilliant but needy students and reaffirms the belief that education remains the most powerful investment in shaping a brighter future.
