The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has officially inaugurated 83 recruits into the Community Protection Assistant (CPA) and Community Fire Assistant (CFA) modules at the Kwabre East Municipal Assembly Hall in Mamponteng, Ashanti Region.
The new batch, made up of 68 Police Assistants and 15 Fire Service Assistants, includes 20 percent females. They recently completed rigorous physical and professional training at the Police and Fire Service training schools in Kumasi.

Speaking at the colourful ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Joseph Amankwah, commended the initiative as a milestone in youth empowerment and job creation. He emphasized that the programme aligns with government’s commitment to sustainable youth employment and the broader vision of equipping young people with meaningful opportunities.

Hon. Amankwah noted that the introduction of the Fire Service Assistant module was historic, being the first of its kind in Ghana’s political and employment landscape. He commended government for prioritizing youth employment through the YEA, saying such interventions are critical in removing young people from the streets and placing them into gainful avenues of service.

In a stern caution to the newly inaugurated personnel, the MCE advised them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism. He specifically warned them against using their uniforms and positions to extort money from drivers or intimidate members of the public, stressing that such misconduct would tarnish both the programme and their personal reputation.

“You have been given a rare opportunity to serve your communities. Do not abuse this trust by engaging in extortion or intimidation. Shun every form of misconduct and let professionalism guide you,” he told the recruits.
The MCE further urged the beneficiaries to avoid partisan politics in the course of their duties, reminding them that the YEA programme was a national initiative that transcends political affiliations. He also advised them to remain vigilant, disciplined, and to control personal impulses, especially matters relating to inappropriate relationships, as these could undermine public confidence in their work.

“Earn the trust of the public by being disciplined, vigilant and professional. Remember, your duty is to protect lives, property, and the environment, and in doing so, you are directly supporting Ghana’s economic growth and stability,” he added.
Hon. Amankwah appealed to the mainstream Police and Fire Service officers to provide regular in-service training for the new recruits, ensuring they stay updated with modern practices and operational standards.
He concluded by motivating the recruits to see their engagement as a stepping stone for greater service to the nation.
“Let this opportunity inspire you to dedicate yourselves completely to serving your communities and our country,” he emphasized.

The ceremony was attended by officials from the Youth Employment Agency, representatives from the Police and Fire Services, traditional authorities, and families of the recruits, who cheered the young officers as they officially began their service to the municipality.
