Kumawu Woraso Residents Praise Hon. Maxwell Doffour for Championing Free Health Insurance Renewal

Residents of Kumawu Woraso in the Ashanti Region have expressed profound appreciation to their Assembly Member, Hon. Maxwell Amponsah Doffour, for sponsoring a comprehensive National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration and renewal exercise that has benefitted hundreds of people across the community.
The initiative, which took place over the weekend, was aimed at ensuring that residents—particularly the aged, women, children, and low-income earners—continue to enjoy access to quality healthcare services without financial difficulties.

Hon. Maxwell Doffour personally funded the entire exercise at a cost exceeding GH¢8,000, covering registration and renewal fees, as well as logistical support for the NHIS officials who conducted the activity. The exercise was organized in collaboration with the Sekyere Kumawu District office of the NHIS, which deployed a team to assist in the smooth running of the process.

The event recorded an impressive turnout as residents from all parts of Kumawu Woraso trooped to the registration centre to renew or register their NHIS cards. For many, this was a long-awaited opportunity to reactivate their health insurance due to financial constraints that had prevented them from doing so in the past. The initiative brought great relief and renewed hope, as community members expressed gratitude for the chance to regain access to healthcare services.

Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Maxwell Doffour explained that the program was part of his broader vision to improve the well-being of his constituents through sustainable community interventions. He emphasized that the health of the people remains one of his top priorities, and helping them to renew their NHIS cards was a practical step toward ensuring that everyone could access healthcare when needed.

According to him, many residents had been unable to seek medical care because their NHIS cards had expired or they could not afford the renewal fees. “This initiative is to ensure that no one in Kumawu Woraso is denied healthcare due to financial hardship,” he said. “When my people are healthy, the community becomes stronger and more productive.”

Hon. Doffour further stated that this was not the first time he had organized such a program and assured that similar exercises would be carried out in the coming years. He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing health, education, and social welfare in his electoral area, emphasizing that leadership at the local level must be rooted in compassion and practical service.

Residents who benefitted from the exercise lauded the Assembly Member for his generosity, describing his action as a true example of servant leadership. They commended him for always responding to the needs of the people and for using his position to promote development and well-being across Kumawu Woraso.

The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) remains one of Ghana’s most vital social protection programs, designed to make healthcare accessible and affordable to all citizens. Hon. Doffour’s initiative aligns perfectly with the government’s broader vision of achieving universal health coverage and improving healthcare delivery for vulnerable populations.

The successful completion of the exercise left residents filled with joy and gratitude. Many described the program as one of the most impactful community interventions in recent times, noting that it has restored their confidence in the local governance system. They pledged their continuous support for Hon. Doffour, whose leadership continues to make a meaningful difference in their lives.

Hon. Maxwell Doffour’s initiative has not only restored healthcare access for hundreds of residents but also demonstrated his unwavering dedication to the people he serves. His exemplary leadership stands as a beacon of hope for grassroots governance, reflecting how compassion, vision, and action can transform lives and strengthen communities across the Ashanti Region.
