Kumawu Tragedy: MP Ernest Yaw Anim Commiserates with Families, Urges National Support

The Member of Parliament for the Kumawu Constituency and Chairman of Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic road accident that occurred on Saturday, 17th January 2026, claiming four lives and leaving five others in critical condition.

The accident involved a construction truck transporting sand from Abotanso to a project site. According to reports, the truck lost control and crashed into a hairdressing container shop and a storey building, causing extensive damage and resulting in the loss of innocent lives.

Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, who visited both the accident scene and the hospital on Sunday morning, said he was devastated by the scale of the tragedy. He explained that the visit was to personally assess the situation, interact with victims receiving treatment, and console the affected families during their moment of grief.

“I was deeply saddened to learn of this unfortunate incident. The loss of lives is heartbreaking, and my thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families as well as those battling for their lives in hospital,” the MP stated.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy and full recovery. Hon. Anim assured the families that they are not alone and pledged his unwavering support to them throughout this difficult period.

As part of efforts to mobilise assistance for the victims, the Kumawu MP made a passionate appeal to the Government, benevolent individuals, corporate institutions, faith-based organisations and the general public to come to the aid of the affected families. He noted that support in the form of financial assistance, medical care and emotional encouragement would go a long way to ease the burden on those affected.

Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim further called on residents of the constituency and Ghanaians at large to demonstrate compassion and solidarity in response to the tragedy. He emphasised the importance of unity in moments of crisis and pledged to continue working closely with traditional authorities, local leaders and relevant stakeholders to ensure that the affected families receive the necessary support.

The tragic incident has cast a dark cloud over the Kumawu Constituency, with residents mourning the loss of lives and calling for strengthened road safety measures to prevent future occurrences.

Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim reaffirmed his commitment to stand with the people of Kumawu and to advocate for measures that will promote safety and protect lives within the constituency.
