The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumawu in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, has unveiled plans to provide free daily transport for students in remote communities within the constituency. The initiative, which will involve procuring tricycles (pragyia), aims to reduce absenteeism and encourage early childhood education in rural areas.
Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim made this announcement during the 2025 Kumawu MP Teachers’ Awards ceremony, held under the theme “Motivating the Teacher: The Tool for Educational Transformation.” He emphasized that many students in hard-to-reach areas struggle to access education due to transportation challenges, and his initiative seeks to eliminate this barrier.
“As an MP, my vision is to ensure that no child is left behind due to transportation difficulties. By providing free tricycles to convey students to and from school, we will significantly reduce absenteeism and encourage parents to send their children to school at an early age,” he stated.
In addition to his transportation initiative, the MP assured constituents of his commitment to improving road infrastructure in rural areas. He acknowledged that bad roads remain a major challenge and promised to take steps to fix them to enhance movement within the constituency.
Recognition for Teachers
The awards ceremony also celebrated hardworking teachers in the district. The Overall Best Teacher, Madam Paulina Afia Ago, was rewarded with a refrigerator, while a teacher serving in one of the hard-to-reach communities received a motorbike.
Speaking at the event, Oheneba Kwasi Agyekumhene, the Kumawu Kyidomhene, urged teachers to take firm steps in ensuring discipline among students. He specifically called for measures to prevent children from spending excessive time playing video games and loitering on the streets at night.
The Kumawu District Education Director, Mr. Kwame Oduro Owusu, encouraged teachers who did not receive awards this year to remain dedicated, assuring them of future recognition.
Meanwhile, the Overall Best Teacher, Madam Paulina Afia Ago, used the platform to appeal to the authorities to deploy more teachers to the district to improve education quality.
Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim’s commitment to education has been widely praised, with many expressing optimism that his initiatives will help transform learning conditions in Kumawu’s rural communities.
