Kumawu MP Engages UK House of Commons in Major Parliamentary Strengthening Mission
Ghana’s efforts to enhance legislative efficiency, strengthen human rights protections, and deepen democratic governance took a significant step forward as Honourable Ernest Yaw Anim, Member of Parliament for Kumawu, joined a high-level Ghanaian parliamentary delegation on a strategic benchmarking mission to the UK House of Commons.

The two-day working visit, which commenced on 8th December 2025, brings together members of Ghana’s Human Rights Committee and the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee. The mission forms part of a broader partnership between the Parliament of Ghana and the UK Parliament, aimed at promoting institutional capacity building, improving legislative processes, and fostering international cooperation.
Throughout the engagement, the Ghanaian legislators are expected to participate in extensive interactions with UK parliamentarians and committee experts. These discussions will explore best practices in human rights oversight, legislative drafting, citizen participation models, and committee-based governance systems. The visit also offers hands-on exposure to parliamentary procedures that support transparency, accountability, and effective lawmaking in one of the world’s oldest democratic institutions.

Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, an outspoken advocate for legal reform and improved governance systems, underscored the importance of such exchanges in shaping Ghana’s legislative future. He emphasised that adopting proven parliamentary models is essential for strengthening oversight and safeguarding the rights of citizens.
“This mission offers us a rare opportunity to observe how the UK Parliament manages its committee system, conducts legislative scrutiny, and ensures the protection of fundamental human rights,” Hon. Anim noted. “The insights gathered here will directly influence Ghana’s ongoing reforms and strengthen our ability to craft effective, people-centred laws.”

The benchmarking visit is expected to contribute significantly to ongoing reforms within Ghana’s legislative framework, particularly in the areas of constitutional review, human rights advancement, and parliamentary modernization. Observers have expressed optimism that the exposure gained from the UK House of Commons will translate into improved practices within Ghana’s parliamentary committees.

The visit highlights the growing cooperation between Ghana and the United Kingdom, reflecting a shared commitment to democratic development and institutional excellence. As the delegation continues its engagements in London, expectations are high that the outcomes will help shape a more robust, accountable, and responsive legislative system back home.

Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim’s participation further reinforces the Kumawu MP’s dedication to championing governance reforms and advancing policies that promote justice, transparency, and national development.
