Kumasi Mayor Visits Hospitals, Confirms Recovery of Recruits Injured at GAF Screening

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, on Friday paid visits to two major health facilities in the metropolis to check on the condition of recruits who were rushed for treatment after experiencing distress during the ongoing Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment and body selection exercise at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Four recruits were earlier transported to the KNUST Hospital and the Kumasi South Hospital after suffering exhaustion and related complications while going through the screening process. The Mayor’s visit formed part of his commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all applicants participating in the national recruitment exercise.

At both hospitals, Hon. Ofori Boadi Agyemang was briefed by medical authorities on the treatment administered to the affected recruits. Doctors and nurses confirmed that all four individuals received immediate medical attention upon arrival, were stabilized, and had subsequently been discharged in good condition. The Mayor commended the health professionals for their swift and professional response, noting that their timely intervention prevented the situation from escalating.

He expressed relief that none of the recruits sustained long-term complications and praised the dedication of the medical teams assigned to the screening grounds at Baba Yara Stadium. The Mayor also used the opportunity to encourage medical personnel to continue providing rapid support throughout the recruitment period.

Hon. Ofori Boadi Agyemang reiterated that the welfare of the youth remains a top priority for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and assured families of the affected recruits that government remains committed to ensuring a safe, well-coordinated, and humane recruitment environment. He emphasized that such large-scale national exercises require strong collaboration between security agencies, health institutions, and local authorities to guarantee the safety of participants.

The Mayor’s visit came shortly after his earlier inspection of the recruitment grounds, where he donated essential medical supplies to support health teams stationed at the stadium. His interventions have been widely commended by both applicants and security officials overseeing the exercise.

The ongoing Ghana Armed Forces recruitment at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium continues to attract thousands of hopefuls, reflecting the rising interest among young Ghanaians to serve their country through the military.
