The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, together with the Venerable Hon. Betty Mould-Iddrisu, Member of the Council of State and former Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, engaged with law students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) during the 66th Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Week Celebration.

The highlight of the celebration was a public lecture under the theme, “When the Law is Silent: Judicial Innovation and Legal Practice in Ghana’s Family and Succession Law.” The lecture provided an enriching platform for critical reflection on the evolving role of the judiciary in addressing legal gaps, particularly in matters affecting families and inheritance in Ghanaian society.

Hon. Ofori-Agyeman Boadi expressed admiration for the intellectual curiosity, engagement, and insightful contributions of the students and participants. He emphasized the importance of a progressive legal system capable of interpreting and adapting the law to meet the needs of a changing society, while ensuring justice, equity, and fairness for all citizens.

“The discussions today reaffirm the need to strengthen our legal institutions and encourage innovative judicial thinking. Every citizen must have recourse to justice, even when the law is silent on emerging issues,” the Mayor noted.

He also commended the SRC and the Faculty of Law at KNUST for organizing a timely and impactful programme, urging students to pursue excellence, critical thinking, and dedicated service to the nation as future custodians of justice.

The lecture formed part of SRC Week activities aimed at fostering intellectual engagement, promoting legal scholarship, and inspiring the next generation of legal practitioners to innovate responsibly within Ghana’s judicial framework.
