The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, has inspected the ongoing road construction at Daaban Newsite as the project nears completion, bringing renewed hope to residents who have endured decades of poor road conditions.

The six-kilometre road network, which has long been dusty and largely unmotorable, is expected to significantly improve transportation within the area when completed. The project will link Daaban Newsite to key communities including Sokoban, Santase, and Ejisu, providing a major boost to connectivity and mobility for commuters.

During the inspection tour, the Mayor was accompanied by road engineers and technical officers overseeing the project being executed by the construction firm Doncross Limited. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and commended the contractors for the quality of work done so far.

Mr. Boadi noted that the road project forms part of the government’s broader effort to improve road infrastructure across the metropolis, stressing that the development will help address longstanding transportation challenges faced by residents.

He explained that the improvement of the road network would not only ease traffic congestion but also help reduce dust pollution in the community, thereby improving air quality and the overall living conditions of residents.

According to him, the completion of the project is expected to stimulate economic activity within the area, while also increasing property values as accessibility improves.

Officials of the Department of Urban Roads who accompanied the Mayor indicated that significant progress has already been made on the project. They explained that the drainage infrastructure has been fully completed and that the road base has been compacted, with preparations underway for the final bitumen surfacing.

The Ashanti Regional Director of Urban Roads, Na-em Iddrisu, assured residents that the road would soon be ready for use.

He disclosed that the final phase of surfacing is expected to commence next week and expressed confidence that the road network would be opened to traffic within the next two weeks if weather conditions remain favourable.

Following the inspection at Daaban Newsite, the Mayor and his team proceeded to Duase Newsite to assess road infrastructure challenges affecting residents in the area.

During the visit, city authorities indicated that preliminary steps are already underway to address the poor state of roads in Duase Newsite. The proposed road project is expected to link the community to Buoban and Asokore Mampong once completed.

City officials further revealed that plans are being finalised to begin construction works, with the road expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Residents of both Daaban and Duase Newsite have expressed optimism that the ongoing and proposed road projects will significantly improve transportation, promote economic development, and enhance the quality of life within the affected communities.
