Kumasi Mayor Inspects Abandoned KSTS Projects, Promises Swift Rehabilitation

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure within the metropolis following a working visit to the Kumasi Secondary Technical School (KSTS) at Patase, where several abandoned structures were inspected.

The inspection, conducted on Monday, brought together a team of engineers, technical officers, and Assembly Members from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), all led by the Mayor himself. The exercise aimed at assessing the condition of stalled and deteriorating projects on the school’s campus, some of which have remained incomplete for several years.

Speaking after the tour, Hon. Ofori-Agyeman Boadi expressed concern over the state of the abandoned structures, emphasizing the need for immediate action to ensure students have access to safe and conducive learning facilities. He disclosed that the Assembly, in collaboration with structural engineers, will soon begin detailed engineering tests to determine the strength and safety of the existing structures before rehabilitation works commence.

“I’m pleased to announce that we are beginning a structural engineering test, and once that is completed, we’ll move swiftly to work on all these abandoned projects. One of our top priorities is to build a decent and modern place of convenience for the students to promote hygiene and comfort,” the Mayor stated.

He further noted that education remains one of the key pillars of his administration’s development agenda, and that the KMA will not relent in its efforts to improve school infrastructure across the metropolis. According to him, reviving such abandoned projects aligns perfectly with the broader vision of making Kumasi a center of excellence in education and urban development.

The engineers on site also assured that the assessment will be comprehensive, covering the stability of structures, drainage systems, and general safety conditions. They pledged to submit a detailed report to the Mayor’s office to guide the next phase of rehabilitation.

Assembly Members who accompanied the Mayor commended his hands-on leadership approach and his continued focus on educational development. They expressed optimism that once completed, the KSTS projects will significantly improve teaching and learning conditions for both staff and students.

The inspection visit forms part of the Mayor’s ongoing initiative to identify and revitalize stalled public infrastructure across the Kumasi Metropolis, reinforcing the KMA’s dedication to building a modern, well-serviced urban environment that meets the needs of its residents.

The move has been widely welcomed by residents and the school community, who believe the intervention will mark a turning point in addressing long-standing infrastructural challenges at the Kumasi Secondary Technical School.
