Kumasi Mayor Hon Richard Ofori-Agyemang Commends Efficient GAF Recruitment Process at Baba Yara Stadium
The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, on Friday paid a working visit to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to observe the ongoing Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment and body selection exercise, which has attracted thousands of young applicants from across the Ashanti Region.
The Mayor, who toured the various screening and verification points, applauded the Ghana Armed Forces and collaborating agencies for significantly improving the organization of this year’s exercise. He noted that despite the massive turnout, congestion was kept to a minimum due to the provision of additional canopies, tables, queue-control lines, and the deployment of adequate personnel to manage the crowd.
Hon. Ofori Boadi Agyemang expressed sympathy to recruits who experienced physical discomfort during the early hours of the process, as well as their families who rushed to the stadium upon hearing of the incidents. He assured them that the government is committed to safeguarding the welfare of all participants and will continue to support security agencies to enhance the safety of national recruitment activities.
To further strengthen the medical response team on the ground, the Mayor donated essential medical supplies, including first-aid items, hydration packs, and examination materials, to assist the health personnel stationed at the venue. He encouraged the recruits to remain calm, cooperate with officials, and trust in the fairness and transparency of the selection procedure
Hon. Ofori Boadi Agyemang later visited the KNUST Hospital and the Kumasi South Hospital, where four affected recruits had been admitted earlier for medical attention. Hospital authorities confirmed that all four individuals had received timely treatment and had been successfully discharged.
The Mayor reaffirmed the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s readiness to collaborate with the Armed Forces, health institutions, and relevant agencies to ensure that the recruitment exercise continues smoothly, safely, and professionally.
The ongoing GAF recruitment at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium continues to draw huge participation, reflecting the growing interest of Ghanaian youth in serving their country through the military.
