Kumasi Mayor Hands Over Major Project Sites to Contractors to Accelerate Citywide Development

The Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Hon. Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, has officially handed over several major project sites to contractors as part of a coordinated effort to accelerate infrastructure development across the metropolis.

The projects, which cut across healthcare, education, and pedestrian safety, are fully funded by the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) and are expected to bring direct social and economic benefits to residents upon completion within a six-month timeframe.

A key component of the initiative is the construction of a modern Pediatric Centre at the KMA Clinic in Adum. The facility, which will include staff accommodation and child-friendly infrastructure, is aimed at improving specialized healthcare delivery for children within Kumasi and its surrounding communities. The project has been awarded to M/S B–Molie Limited.

In addition, the Assembly is constructing four pedestrian footbridges at Santasi, Ohwim, Amankwatia, and Kokoso to enhance road safety in some of the metropolis’ busiest corridors. The footbridges, to be executed by M/S D’Rigano Struct Limited, are expected to significantly reduce pedestrian-related accidents, particularly among schoolchildren, traders, and other vulnerable road users.

To strengthen basic education infrastructure, contracts have also been awarded for the construction of six-unit classroom blocks at Santasi M/A Basic School and Krofrom Adabya Islamic School. The classroom projects, being undertaken by M/S Bema Global Group Limited, are intended to ease congestion in existing classrooms and create a more conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.

Speaking during the site handover exercise, Hon. Ofori Boadi Agyemang stressed the need for strict adherence to project specifications, quality standards, and approved timelines. He cautioned contractors against unnecessary delays and substandard work, emphasizing that the Assembly would closely monitor all projects to ensure value for money.

The Mayor noted that the timely completion of the projects would contribute significantly to improving living conditions in Kumasi, particularly in access to quality healthcare, safe pedestrian movement, and enhanced educational facilities. He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to delivering people-centered development that responds to the real needs of residents.

The site handover marks another important step in KMA’s broader urban development agenda, reinforcing efforts to modernize infrastructure and sustain Kumasi’s position as a leading metropolitan hub in Ghana.
