Kumasi Mayor Hails Youth Innovators for Pioneering Climate Solutions
The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, has commended young innovators in the metropolis for their creative contributions towards tackling climate change.

He gave the commendation during the Phase 2 Exhibition of the Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF) held on August 27, 2025, at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Conference Hall, where several youth-led projects were showcased.

The exhibition featured innovations such as smart solar-powered dustbins by 3-in-1 Tech Waste Solutions, eco-friendly soaps made from plantain peels by Sunawash, and green charcoal produced from coconut husks by GAPS KNUST. Other projects included climate education initiatives by Green Awareness International, smoke detectors developed by Martyrs of Uganda School, climate-resilient vegetable research by Echo Youth Alliance, and sustainable practices such as composting, tree planting, waste segregation, and biogas production by the Crusaders group.

Mayor Agyemang assured participants of the KMA’s readiness to support youth-driven innovations, noting that the Assembly would maintain an open-door policy for collaboration and financial assistance. He stressed that the creativity of the youth was vital to the city’s plans for climate resilience and sustainable development.

“These projects show that solutions to climate change are not only in the hands of governments and corporations but also in the creativity and commitment of our youth,” he said. “The KMA is committed to supporting these ideas to grow into impactful enterprises that protect the environment and create jobs.”

The Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF) is funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG). It seeks to empower young people to take practical action on climate change under the theme, “Youth Climate Action!! Stewards of the Environment.”

Organisers of the exhibition expressed optimism that the innovations would attract investment and partnerships for greater impact, while acknowledging the Mayor’s encouragement and support for youth-led climate initiatives.

The KMA has reiterated its commitment to building a greener and climate-resilient Kumasi, with youth innovation playing a central role in achieving that goal.
