Kumasi Mayor, Coordinating Director Tour Departments, Align 2026 Development Priorities

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, together with the Metropolitan Coordinating Director, Mr. Francis Dwira Darko, has embarked on a working tour of selected offices and departments of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) as part of efforts to align management and staff with the Assembly’s development priorities for 2026.

The departmental tour followed a New Year management meeting at which the Mayor reiterated his vision and strategic focus for the year ahead, with particular emphasis on sanitation improvement, staff welfare and motivation, digital transformation, and investment promotion across the metropolis.

During interactions with staff, Hon. Ofori-Agyemang Boadi extended New Year goodwill messages and called for renewed commitment, professionalism and teamwork in the discharge of official duties. He stressed that the success of the Assembly’s programmes and policies largely depends on the dedication and collective effort of staff at all levels.

The Mayor described sanitation as a critical priority for the metropolis, noting that a clean city is fundamental to public health, tourism, investment attraction and the overall image of Kumasi as Ghana’s cultural and commercial capital. He urged departments and units responsible for environmental health and waste management to intensify their operations and adopt innovative approaches to address sanitation challenges.

Hon. Ofori-Agyemang Boadi also underscored the importance of staff welfare and motivation, assuring workers of management’s commitment to creating a supportive work environment that enhances productivity and morale. According to him, a motivated workforce is essential for efficient service delivery and the achievement of the Assembly’s development goals.

A key focus of the engagement was the need for the Assembly to fully leverage digital platforms to improve service delivery, internal communication and public engagement. The Mayor encouraged departments to embrace digital tools and solutions to enhance efficiency, transparency and responsiveness, while strategically promoting Kumasi’s economic and investment opportunities to both local and international investors.

The Metropolitan Coordinating Director, Mr. Francis Dwira Darko, on his part, emphasized the need for coordination and alignment of departmental activities with the Assembly’s overall development agenda. He encouraged heads of departments to ensure that their annual work plans reflect the Mayor’s vision and contribute meaningfully to the growth and transformation of the metropolis.

As part of the tour, management also assessed the operational needs of various departments, identifying challenges and areas requiring logistical and administrative support to improve performance.

Heads of departments used the opportunity to present brief outlines of their planned activities for the year, highlighting how their programmes and projects align with the Assembly’s strategic objectives. Management reaffirmed its commitment to collaboration, accountability and results-oriented leadership in delivering quality services to residents of Kumasi.

The New Year engagement and departmental tour set a clear tone for 2026, signaling the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s determination to strengthen institutional performance, improve sanitation, embrace digital innovation and position the metropolis as a leading destination for investment and sustainable development.
