Kumasi Mayor Commissions State-of-the-Art ABISS Bus Terminal and Lodge, Boosting City’s Transport Infrastructure

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has taken a significant step forward in modernizing the city’s transport infrastructure with the official commissioning of the newly completed ABISS Bus Terminal and Lodge at Mbrom Ash Town. The ceremony, held today 9th December 2025, was attended by key stakeholders, including traditional leaders, government officials, and representatives from the private sector.

Presiding over the commissioning, the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, hailed the project as a milestone in the city’s development agenda. The Mayor highlighted the collaborative efforts between the city authorities, traditional leaders, and private investors as critical in delivering a facility that combines both transport and hospitality services for the convenience of commuters.

The ABISS Bus Terminal and Lodge is designed to offer a more organized, safe, and efficient departure point for travelers. The adjoining lodge provides accessible accommodation, positioning the facility as a modern hub for transportation and hospitality in the heart of Kumasi. Residents of Mbrom Ash Town and neighboring communities have welcomed the project, noting its potential to ease congestion, enhance passenger comfort, and stimulate local economic activity.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi emphasized the NDC government’s commitment to supporting private sector initiatives, stressing that national development relies not only on government efforts but also on partnerships with private business owners. He commended Madam Abigail Aduako, CEO of ABISS Bus Terminal and Lodge, for her investment in the city and contribution to nation-building.

The Mayor also highlighted the government’s ongoing economic measures, noting that the Ghana cedi has strengthened against the US dollar, moving from GH¢17 under the previous administration to GH¢12, and that inflation has reduced significantly. He assured stakeholders that the government remains focused on creating a favorable environment for business growth and economic stability. Looking ahead, Hon. Ofori-Agyemang revealed that plans are underway for the construction of a national theatre in Kumasi in 2026, aimed at providing a premier entertainment venue for residents and visitors.

The National Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Nana Nimako Bresiamah, used the occasion to remind drivers to strictly adhere to road safety regulations, particularly as the Yuletide season approaches. He urged drivers to avoid overspeeding, overloading, wrongful overtaking, drunk driving, and texting while driving. Nana Bresiamah further called on passengers to hold drivers accountable and discouraged putting undue pressure on them during the festive period. He also commended the government for the ongoing Accra-Kumasi Expressway project and urged that the dualization works not be abandoned.

Madam Abigail Aduako, CEO of ABISS Bus Terminal and Lodge, expressed her gratitude for the support from the government and called for enhanced security measures to protect lives and property, noting that the terminal is intended to operate 24 hours a day. She also highlighted efforts to maintain cleanliness at the station by providing dustbins and encouraged government support for Ghanaian businesses in financial and contractual matters, emphasizing that local entrepreneurs should be prioritized in national development projects.

The commissioning of the ABISS Bus Terminal and Lodge reflects Kumasi’s growing momentum in urban development and modernization, signaling a new era of efficient, safe, and comfortable transport services for residents and commuters alike.
