Kumasi Mayor Commissions New Classroom Block at Santasi-Kagyasi African Faith Basic School

The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Pyne, has commissioned a newly constructed classroom block at the Santasi-Kagyasi African Faith Basic School, marking a significant step in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s (KMA) efforts to improve educational infrastructure in the metropolis. The project was funded through the Assembly’s Internally Generated Fund (IGF) and the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).

The commissioning ceremony, held earlier this week, brought together key stakeholders from the education sector, local authorities, and community members. The new classroom block is expected to provide much-needed space for students, addressing overcrowding and enhancing the overall learning environment at the Santasi-Kagyasi African Faith Basic School.

In his address, Hon. Samuel Pyne emphasized the critical role of education in national development, stressing the Assembly’s ongoing commitment to providing conducive environments for students to thrive academically. He urged the school authorities and the local community to adopt a strong culture of maintenance to ensure the facility’s longevity.

“The Assembly has invested in this project, and we expect the school and community to take good care of the facility. The practice of regular maintenance will ensure that this building serves generations of students to come,” Hon. Pyne stated.

As part of the Assembly’s broader initiative to improve educational standards in the metropolis, Hon. Pyne also donated 900 dual desks to various schools across Kumasi. He noted that this donation is part of efforts to tackle furniture shortages in schools, a challenge that has hindered the delivery of quality education in the area.

Speaking to the media during the event, Hon. Pyne reiterated the Assembly’s focus on ensuring that all students have access to the tools they need to excel. He stressed that providing proper infrastructure and resources for schools remains a top priority for the KMA.

Receiving the new facility on behalf of the Metro Director of Education, Mrs. Judith Mensah Panford, Head of Planning at the Metro Directorate of Education, expressed gratitude to the KMA for addressing a pressing need within the school. She commended the Assembly for its thoughtful intervention, noting that the new classroom block would significantly improve the learning conditions for students.

“We are grateful to the Mayor for his thoughtfulness and the support from the Assembly. We promise that the facility granted to us will be well-maintained, so it can serve future generations of students,” Mrs. Panford assured.

In addition, the Nkosuohene of Kagyasi, Nana Nimo, who represented the local traditional council at the event, expressed deep appreciation to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly for the new facility. He acknowledged that the new classroom block would play a vital role in enhancing the quality of education at Santasi-Kagyasi African Faith Basic School.

“We are very thankful for this classroom block. On behalf of the headteacher and the entire school, we pledge to uphold the culture of maintenance, as advised by the Mayor. We will ensure that the building and all resources provided are well taken care of,” Nana Nimo said.

Nana Nimo also praised the Assembly’s ongoing commitment to addressing infrastructure needs in schools, stressing that the new classroom block would make a lasting impact on both students and teachers.

The event was well attended by officials from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, teachers, students, and members of the Santasi-Kagyasi community, all of whom expressed their gratitude for the Assembly’s efforts in improving educational infrastructure. The community lauded the Mayor’s dedication to creating a conducive environment for quality education in Kumasi, a move they believe will have a lasting impact on the development of the metropolis.
