Kumasi High Court Dismisses Defamation Case Against Zuria FM and General Manager

The Kumasi High Court 7 has dismissed a defamation lawsuit filed by Mohammed Ridwanu, CEO of Alpha Radio, against Yussif Abdul Ganiyu Inshola, General Manager of Zuria FM 88.7, and the radio station itself. The court ruled in favor of the defendants and awarded a cost of GH¢20,000 to Yussif Abdul Ganiyu Inshola and Zuria FM.

The case, which lasted three years, stemmed from allegations made by Ridwanu, who claimed that defamatory statements were broadcast on Zuria FM. He sought legal action against Yussif Abdul Ganiyu Inshola, holding him and the station accountable for the alleged comments. However, after a thorough review of the evidence, the court determined that there was insufficient proof to support the claims of defamation.

In delivering its ruling, the court dismissed the case and ordered Mohammed Ridwanu to pay GH¢20,000 in costs to the defendants. The verdict brings an end to the prolonged legal battle between the two media personalities.

Following the ruling, legal representatives for the defendants expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating that it reaffirms the principles of free speech and responsible journalism. On the other hand, there has been no immediate public response from Mohammed Ridwanu or Alpha Radio regarding the decision.

The case has drawn attention within the media landscape in Kumasi, highlighting the legal complexities surrounding defamation claims in Ghana’s broadcasting industry.
