Kumasi Central Market Traders Union Donates 200 Packs of Bottled Water to Support Asantehemaa’s Funeral

The Kumasi Central Market Traders Union has donated 200 packs of bottled water to support the Dote Yie of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

The donation, presented on Friday at the Manhyia Palace, formed part of the Union’s contribution towards the series of activities marking the funeral rites of the revered Queen Mother of Asanteman.

Speaking to the media after the presentation, Mrs. Sarah Osei Bonsu, President of the Traders Union, said the gesture was to show solidarity with the royal family and to honor the memory of Nana Konadu Yiadom III. She encouraged the people of Kumasi and Ghanaians at large to rally behind the Asante Kingdom during this historic moment.

“We are calling on all Ghanaians, especially those in Kumasi, to support Asanteman in mourning our mother. Cleanliness and respect during this period are the least we can offer to the memory of our late Asantehemaa,” Mrs. Osei Bonsu stated.

She further urged residents and traders to ensure their surroundings remain clean and to observe the directive of keeping shops closed during the funeral rites as a sign of respect for the departed Queen Mother.

On his part, the Public Relations Officer of the Union, Mr. Michael Amponsah, used the occasion to appeal to President John Dramani Mahama to fast-track the completion of the Kejetia Phase Two Market Project. He lamented that traders had been exposed to extreme weather conditions for years due to the delay in accessing their stores.

“We have been suffering for too long without our stores. We appeal to the President to speed up the Kejetia Project so we can return to safe and proper trading spaces,” Mr. Amponsah emphasized.

Mr. Amponsah also cautioned traders in the Kumasi Metropolis against selling along pedestrian walkways, particularly during the funeral period. He explained that free movement for mourners and visitors was crucial in showing respect to the Asantehemaa and ensuring a smooth organization of the funeral rites.

The donation by the Kumasi Central Market Traders Union adds to the numerous contributions from individuals, groups, and institutions, all of which reflect the deep reverence and affection Ghanaians hold for the late Queen Mother, whose legacy continues to resonate across Asanteman and beyond.
