Kumasi Bloc MPs Hold Public Dialogue to Demand More from 2025 Budget

The Kumasi Bloc of Members of Parliament (MPs) has convened a public dialogue to assess the 2025 National Budget, questioning whether it adequately addresses the developmental needs of Kumasi and the Ashanti Region.

The event, held at the Prempeh Assembly Hall, brought together policymakers, business leaders, market associations, and civil society organizations to evaluate government commitments to the region’s economic and infrastructural growth.

At the forum, stakeholders discussed key concerns affecting the city, including:

The frequent market fires and the need for improved emergency response and fire prevention strategies.

Delays in road infrastructure projects, particularly the dualization of the Accra-Kumasi road.

Economic challenges and support for businesses to drive local economic growth.

Funding for healthcare, education, and job creation in the region.

Speaking at the event, Hon Francis Asenso-Boakye, MP for Bantama and Chairman of the Kumasi Bloc of MPs, stressed the importance of ensuring that the Ashanti Region gets its fair share of national development resources.

“Kumasi plays a vital role in Ghana’s economy, yet key infrastructure projects and economic policies often overlook our needs. This dialogue ensures that our concerns are heard and addressed in national policymaking,” he stated.

Several MPs at the event raised concerns about whether the budget allocations would be enough to complete stalled projects and address Kumasi’s pressing challenges. Some called for stronger collaboration between the government, private sector, and local communities to ensure meaningful development.

The discussions at the forum reflected a broader push for fair resource allocation, improved governance, and strategic investments to ensure Kumasi’s growth.

With increasing demands for better roads, market safety, and economic support, MPs and stakeholders urged the government to prioritize Kumasi’s development needs in policy decisions.
