
Kumasi was plunged into deep mourning on Saturday, February 7, 2026, as the late OTEC FM news anchor, Nana Akwasi Owusu Achiaw, was laid in state at the Asewaase Methodist School Park.
The solemn ceremony attracted a large crowd of mourners from all walks of life, including family members, friends, media practitioners, traditional authorities, political figures, and sympathisers, all of whom gathered to pay their final respects to the late broadcaster.
Nana Akwasi Owusu Achiaw, popularly known in the media fraternity as Martin Yahaya, was widely admired for his dedication, professionalism, and passion for journalism. His calm delivery of news and strong commitment to ethical broadcasting earned him respect both within and beyond the airwaves.
His untimely death on December 25, 2025, at the age of 44, came as a shock to colleagues, listeners, and loved ones, leaving a painful void in the broadcasting industry and the lives of many who worked closely with him.
The atmosphere at the funeral grounds was marked by grief and reflection as mourners, dressed in black and red, filed past his body to pay their last respects. Tributes highlighted his humility, work ethic, and unwavering devotion to his profession.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including representatives from the Manhyia Palace and officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Among them was the Ashanti Regional Chairman aspirant of the NPP, Odeneho Coke, who paid his respects and donated an amount of GH¢3,000 to support the bereaved family and OTEC FM.

Nana Akwasi Owusu Achiaw is survived by three children, whose loss was deeply felt throughout the ceremony as emotions ran high among family members and sympathisers.
He will be fondly remembered for his professionalism, integrity, and contribution to Ghana’s broadcast media. Though he has departed, his voice, values, and legacy will continue to resonate within the industry and in the hearts of those he touched.
