A Senior Prefect and three others have been arrested in connection with the disturbances at the Krobea Asante Technical Institute, the police have confirmed.
Police investigators made this known during a second appearance at the Asokore Mampong District Court on Thursday (2 February), bringing the number of accused persons to 43.
They were however granted a ¢2000 bail each with one surety to be justified by parents or guardians, shortly after the prosecution amended its charge sheet.
The court presided over by H/W Samuel Buabin Quansah also ordered the students to sign bonds and report to the Effiduase-Asokore Police Station with their parents or guardians once every week.
The suspects — some of whom are juveniles — were arrested following a protest by some rampaging students over poor results recorded by their predecessors in an exam supervised by the National Board for Professionals and Technician Examinations.
They have been slapped with provisional charges of conspiracy to commit a crime to wit rioting, causing unlawful damage and stealing.
The case has been adjourned to March 2, 2023.
The January 22 incident forced the Ashanti Regional Security Council to order the immediate closure of the school. A five-member committee has also been tasked to investigate the circumstances surrounding the violence.
