The Chief Executive Officer of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr Yakubu Seidu Adam, together with the hospital’s directors and a team from New Allied, has officially commissioned three sets of state-of-the-art equipment for the ENT Department, valued at GH¢11.3 million.

Installed across the Endoscopy Room, the ENT Unit, and the Audiology Centre, these new systems are expected to significantly enhance the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of ear, nose, and throat conditions.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Chief Executive stated, “The objective of investing heavily in this equipment is to ensure that we provide all the necessary modalities required, so that no Ghanaian will have to leave the shores of Ghana to seek care elsewhere.”

He noted that the introduction of these tools would improve operational efficiency and elevate the quality of care delivered to patients.

Dr Adam expressed his appreciation to the department, stating, “We are grateful and proud of the team for making this possible.” He also emphasised the importance of proper handling and strict supervision of the equipment, stressing the need to train young residents to acquire the requisite skills to operate such specialised tools.

He further extended his sincere gratitude to the Board and staff for their dedication, support, and commitment to advancing healthcare delivery.

Prof. Emmanuel D. Kitcher, former Head of Department (New Allied), remarked that the equipment is highly valuable and positions the hospital among the few in West Africa with such advanced technology.

He noted that visiting surgeons hold the facility in high regard upon seeing the ultra-modern equipment, adding that this brings him immense pride. He further emphasised the need to establish proper systems for handling and maintaining the equipment, given its high cost and delicate nature.

The equipment, including an endoscopy tower and specialised workstations, represents a major investment in improving ENT services at the hospital.

The Head of the Department, Dr Kafiu Searyoh provided a detailed briefing on the newly acquired equipment, highlighting its role in improving service delivery.

Mrs Jemima Fynn, Chief Audiologist, led the audiology team in introducing the newly acquired hearing assessment equipment and explaining their functions. These include vestibular (water and air) systems, auditory evoked potential machines (ABR, ASSR, CAEP, VEMP), a mounted otoscope, and Welch Allyn devices.

Following a tour of the newborn hearing screening area, Mrs Fynn assured Management that audiology services would be significantly enhanced with the addition of the new equipment.
