The suspect arrested in connection with the tragic death of a final-year student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been remanded in police custody and is set to reappear in court on Friday, March 24, 2025.
Daniel Tuffuor was picked up by the police after campus CCTV footage captured him in a violent confrontation with the deceased, Joana Deladem Yabani.
Reports indicate that Joana fell to the ground during the altercation, and after realizing she was unresponsive, the suspect allegedly moved her body near the University’s Disability and Rehabilitation Centre, where she was later found.
Appearing before the Prempeh Assembly Hall District Court, Daniel’s plea was not taken after the fact sheet was read to him.
The prosecutor requested that the suspect be kept in custody for two weeks to allow for the conclusion of investigations, a request the judge granted.
Family and friends of the deceased, who were present in court, are hoping for swift justice to ease their grief and pain.
The suspect has been charged with causing harm and conspiracy to commit murder.
Joana was discovered unresponsive behind the Disability and Rehabilitation Centre in the early hours of February 27, 2025.
Medical personnel from KNUST Hospital arrived at the scene, but she was pronounced dead before her body was transported to the morgue for further examination.
