The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has officially named a newly established Infrastructure Research Hub at its Department of Planning after Bantama Member of Parliament, Francis Asenso-Boakye, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to development planning and infrastructure in Ghana.

The state-of-the-art facility was commissioned on March 16, 2026, through a strategic partnership between the Bantama Asenso-Boakye Foundation and KNUST’s Department of Planning, aiming to advance research, collaboration, and policy innovation in key areas such as infrastructure planning, sustainable housing, transport systems, and urban management.

The new hub features modern, fully furnished offices, a welcoming reception area, and cutting-edge research equipment, designed to support both academic inquiry and professional collaboration. It is expected to serve as a central node for innovative research and practical solutions to Ghana’s urban and infrastructure challenges.

At the commissioning ceremony, Francis Asenso-Boakye highlighted the crucial role of universities in bridging the gap between research and national development, stressing that academic institutions are central to shaping policies that drive sustainable infrastructure growth. He expressed optimism that the hub would foster knowledge exchange and strengthen the link between policy formulation and practical implementation.

Akyamfour Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu, Chairman of the University Council, and Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi praised the initiative, describing it as a transformative contribution to research-driven development. They emphasized that the hub will provide students, researchers, and policymakers with the tools and environment necessary to address Ghana’s pressing infrastructure and urban management challenges effectively.

The establishment of the Francis Asenso-Boakye Infrastructure Research Hub is a testament to the growing commitment of both public figures and academic institutions in Ghana to promote sustainable development, evidence-based policy, and innovative solutions that meet the demands of rapidly evolving urban landscapes.
