
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been thrown into deep mourning following the tragic death of a second-year student, Mr Ransford Amankwah Asomani, who died after falling from an off-campus hostel in Ayeduase.
In an official statement issued on Monday, February 9, 2026, the University confirmed that Mr Asomani, a student of the BSc Agribusiness Management programme, fell from the second floor of his hostel in the early hours of Sunday, February 8, 2026.
According to the statement, colleagues who were present at the scene immediately rushed him to the KNUST Hospital with the assistance of the KNUST District Police Patrol Team. Despite the swift response and efforts to save his life, he was sadly pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
University authorities disclosed that the parents of the deceased student have been formally informed of the incident. His body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary, where it is being kept pending an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Management of KNUST expressed profound sorrow over the loss, describing the incident as a grievous blow to the University community. The University extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and colleagues of the late Mr Asomani during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, the KNUST Police, in collaboration with the University’s security services, have commenced a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fall. The University has assured the public that further updates will be communicated as soon as investigations are concluded and all relevant facts are established.
KNUST also reiterated its unwavering commitment to the safety, security, and overall well-being of students and staff, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a safe and supportive academic environment both on and off campus.
The tragic incident has cast a sombre mood over the University, with students and staff alike mourning the untimely loss of a promising young scholar.
