KMA, Obuasi Municipal Benefit from Ghana Smart SDG Cities Workshop

A two-day orientation workshop on Voluntary Local Review (VLR) Data and Spatial Survey Tools was held for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and Obuasi Municipal Assembly under the Ghana Smart Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Cities Programme.

The workshop, organized with support from the Government of Norway, Government of Ghana, and UN-Habitat, is part of a broader initiative benefiting 10 cities across Ghana. The goal is to build institutional capacity for data-driven planning, enhance digitization, and drive socio-economic interventions that support the realization of the SDGs at the local level.

Speaking at the workshop, Ms. Abena Ntori, Country Manager for UN-Habitat, emphasized the need for the programme to achieve its intended impact. She noted that “our interventions should lead to citizens recognizing that our cities have indeed become smart.”

The address on behalf of the Ministry of Finance was delivered by George Ofori-Atta, Principal Economist, who underscored the importance of effective data collection and planning to strengthen local development strategies.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Francis Dwira-Darko, Metro Coordinating Director of KMA, assured participants that the Assembly will give its best to ensure the successful realization of the Smart Cities agenda for Kumasi.
