Kejetia, Krofrom Markets to Be Completed by 2026 — President Mahama Assures Traders During Ashanti Regional Tour

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to improving market infrastructure in the Ashanti Region, with a bold promise to complete both the Kejetia-Central Market Redevelopment Project and the long-abandoned Krofrom Market by the end of 2026.
The President made this announcement during a working visit to the Kejetia project site as part of his “Thank You” tour of the region. Addressing enthusiastic traders and residents, President Mahama disclosed that the Kejetia project currently stands at 66 percent completion, adding that all necessary resources and support would be mobilized to ensure the market is fully operational by the close of next year.
“I want to assure you that the Kejetia-Central Market Redevelopment Project is on track and will be completed by the end of 2026. This market is essential to the economic life of Kumasi and the Ashanti Region, and I am determined to see it delivered to the people,” President Mahama stated.
He further indicated that the portion of the Kejetia market that was recently ravaged by fire would be rehabilitated and integrated into the overall redevelopment framework, ensuring a unified and modernized trading environment for affected shop owners and traders.
On the ground, contractors echoed the President’s optimism, affirming that the pace of work had increased and that they were confident of meeting the deadline. Once completed, the state-of-the-art market facility is expected to accommodate around 20,000 traders, offering modern amenities and safer trading conditions.
President Mahama also turned his attention to the Krofrom Market, a long-standing symbol of neglect, which has remained incomplete for nearly 17 years. He pledged to revive and complete the project under his renewed administration.
“Krofrom Market has suffered years of neglect, and it is time to correct that injustice. My government will ensure that this project sees completion as part of our broader effort to transform market infrastructure across Ghana,” he declared.
His assurances were met with thunderous applause from local traders, many of whom expressed renewed hope in the prospects of a finished market space.
Nana Akosua Pokua, the Deputy Queen Mother for Beads Sellers in the Ashanti Region, speaking on behalf of the market women, lauded President Mahama for his consistent concern for traders. “We are very grateful for this announcement. It gives us hope. We urge the government to ensure timely completion, as our livelihoods depend on these markets,” she said.
The redevelopment of both Kejetia and Krofrom markets, once completed, is expected to significantly reduce congestion, enhance safety, and boost the regional economy through improved trading conditions.
As the President’s regional tour continues, expectations remain high among market traders and local communities who see the fulfillment of these projects as a major step towards inclusive development and economic revitalization.
