KATH Management Engages Media, Calls for Support to Complete Maternity Block
Management of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has engaged the media in the Ashanti Region and appealed for their support to help mobilise public and stakeholder backing for the completion of the stalled 500-bed maternity block at the facility.
The call was made by the Chief Executive Officer of KATH, Dr Paa Kwesi Baido, during a media soiree held in Kumasi on Thursday, December 18, 2025. The engagement formed part of efforts by the new management to strengthen collaboration with the media and to bring renewed attention to critical infrastructural projects at the hospital.

Dr Baido described the maternity block as a key project whose completion would significantly ease pressure on existing maternity and obstetric services at KATH, which serves as a major referral centre for the Ashanti Region and northern parts of the country. He noted that prolonged delays in completing the facility continue to strain resources and affect service delivery.

According to him, the media’s influence and agenda-setting role place them in a unique position to spotlight the stalled project and help attract support from government, civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations, development partners and private investors.
“You have the platform and hundreds of people listen to you. As our partners in development, we will need your support to revive stalled projects at KATH,” Dr Baido told journalists, urging sustained coverage to keep the maternity block on the public agenda.

The KATH CEO disclosed that government has captured the 500-bed maternity block in the 2026 national budget, a development he described as a positive step towards completing the project. He, however, stressed that additional advocacy and collective support would be required to complement government efforts and ensure timely completion of the facility for public use.

“This maternity block will ease the huge pressure on KATH when completed. Government has shown commitment by including it in the 2026 budget, but we must all support the process to ensure the project is completed to serve the public,” he added.
Dr Baido further assured the media of management’s commitment to transparency and collaboration, pledging an open-door policy that will allow journalists access to accurate information and regular engagement to promote effective healthcare communication.
The media engagement, he said, forms part of management’s broader strategy to reposition Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital through strong partnerships, improved communication and accelerated infrastructure development to meet the growing healthcare needs of the population.
