Kasoa Walantu Tragedy: Six-Year-Old Godfred Aboagye Drowns While Retrieving Ball
A tragic domestic accident has claimed the life of six-year-old Godfred Aboagye after he drowned in an uncovered water storage tank at his family’s residence in Kasoa Walantu, within the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.
According to available information, the incident occurred when the young boy attempted to retrieve his ball, which had fallen into the water storage tank situated within the compound of the rented apartment where the family resides. In the process, the child reportedly fell into the tank and could not be rescued in time.

Godfred Aboagye, who was the firstborn of his parents, lived with his family in the same house. The incident has plunged the family and residents of the area into deep sorrow, with many describing the loss as heartbreaking and avoidable.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were later alerted and arrived at the scene to retrieve the body from the water tank. The deceased has since been conveyed to the police mortuary to assist ongoing investigations by the Ghana Police Service.

Confirming the incident in an interview with Angel News, Nana Kofi Ahomka, the Ebusuapani of Gomoa Fetteh, expressed concern over the circumstances leading to the child’s death. He noted that the boy might have survived if emergency responders had arrived earlier.

Nana Kofi Ahomka further lamented the increasing presence of uncovered water storage tanks in residential homes within the area, describing them as serious safety hazards, particularly to children. He therefore appealed to the police, assembly members, and the Environmental Health Department to take firm action against households that fail to properly cover water storage facilities.

He stressed that stronger enforcement and sustained public education are necessary to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in Kasoa and other communities across the municipality.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
