K. Sarmad Limited Starts 12-Classroom Block for Ampabame Under GETFund, Advised to Deliver Quality Work
The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has commenced the construction of a 12-unit classroom block for Ampabame Basic School in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), with the contractor, K. Sarmad Limited, receiving a strong charge to deliver quality and timely work.
The project, valued at GH¢3,495,774.00, is expected to begin by August 15, 2025, and will be completed within 12 months, providing relief to the current congestion at Bohyen Basic School where Ampabame students were temporarily relocated.

The need for this intervention arose after Ampabame Basic School was moved to Bohyen to make way for the construction of an Agenda 111 hospital on the original Ampabame school site. This relocation significantly increased enrollment at Bohyen, leading to overcrowding and pressure on existing infrastructure and teaching staff.
Originally, GETFund approved two 12-unit classroom block projects—one at Kotei in the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly and another at Adomanu in KMA. However, a needs assessment revealed that Ampabame’s situation was more pressing, prompting a reallocation of the Adomanu project to Ampabame.
At a symbolic site-handover ceremony on Friday, August 1, 2025, stakeholders from the education sector, local government, and the contractor gathered to officially launch the project.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Ibrahim Frimpong, an architect from Amalgamated Group, the consulting firm overseeing the project, emphasized the urgent nature of the school and urged K. Sarmad Limited to deliver nothing but high-quality work.
“This school project is not only necessary but urgent. The contractor must work diligently and deliver within schedule,” Mr. Frimpong stated, adding that a clerk of works and a monthly monitoring team would be deployed to ensure quality control and progress tracking throughout the project period.
Judith Mensah Bamford, Head of the Planning Unit at the Kumasi Metro Education Directorate, who represented the Metro Director of Education, also reinforced the importance of the project to academic performance in the area.
“The congestion at Bohyen has seriously affected teaching and learning. This facility is a major step forward. We are expecting outstanding work from the contractor,” she said.
The project also received strong backing from Hon. Emmanuel Fosu Frimpong, Assembly Member for the Bohyen Electoral Area, who welcomed the initiative and pledged the full support of the local leadership and education stakeholders.
“This project is a dream come true. It will greatly improve the learning environment for our children, and we will work with the contractor and consultants to ensure successful completion,” he stated.
Supervising the formal handover was Mr. Charles Adjei, the Metro Planning Officer for KMA, who assured that the Assembly will provide technical and administrative support to ensure the project stays on track.
As K. Sarmad Limited moves to begin work in the coming weeks, parents, teachers, and pupils in the Ampabame and Bohyen communities are filled with optimism that the new school building will help restore a conducive environment for learning and address the long-standing infrastructural gap in the area.
