“Justice Will Be Served” — Ashanti Police Commander Assures Nyinahin After Clash Claims Life

Grief still hangs heavily over the town of Nyinahin following a deadly clash between military personnel and some youth of the town, but a glimmer of hope arrived with the visit of Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe, who has assured residents that justice will not be denied.

The emotional visit to the Nyinahin Palace on Wednesday came in the wake of a disturbing incident that has left the community shaken. A funeral procession turned tragic when a confrontation between youth and soldiers in a military vehicle, registered 73 GA 39, ended in gunfire — taking the life of a young man and injuring two others.

The deceased, 36-year-old Kofi Owusu, affectionately called Juve by friends and family, was reportedly shot during the incident and later succumbed to his injuries. Two other individuals — Kofi Agyapong, 44, and Alfred Kwarteng, 24 — are currently battling injuries at the Nyinahin Government Hospital.

“I am here not just as a police officer, but as a fellow Ghanaian pained by what has happened,” DCOP Cudjoe told the chiefs and elders. “We will do all we can to bring those responsible to book. No one will be shielded.”

Having recently assumed duty as the Ashanti Regional Police Commander after his tenure in the Central North Region, DCOP Cudjoe’s visit was both symbolic and strategic — signaling a new era of leadership that values accountability, dialogue, and justice.

He called on residents to remain calm and trust the security agencies to carry out a thorough and impartial investigation. “We know emotions are high, and understandably so. But let us not take the law into our own hands. The police and military are already working closely to uncover the truth.”

The traditional leaders of Nyinahin, visibly moved by the assurance, expressed their appreciation and urged the police to act with urgency and fairness.

“This is not just about Juve,” one elder said. “This is about preventing the next clash, the next injury, the next life lost.”

The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) is also closely monitoring the situation and is expected to announce a set of community engagement and security reinforcement measures in the coming days.

As the people of Nyinahin mourn their loss and pray for the recovery of the injured, they look to the words of DCOP Teye Cudjoe not just as a promise — but a commitment to peace, truth, and justice.
