Joy in Pampatia as Construction of First Basic School Begins After Years of Appeals

There was great joy and excitement in the Pampatia community of the Afigya Kwabre North District in the Ashanti Region as the government officially commenced the construction of the community’s first-ever basic school. The sod-cutting ceremony, led by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Emmanuel Jackson Aguma, marked a historic moment for the people of Pampatia, who have for many years appealed for access to basic education within their community.

For decades, children in Pampatia have been deprived of a local school facility, forcing them to walk several kilometers daily to attend schools in neighboring towns such as Boamang and Aduman. This situation has exposed many of them to dangerous road conditions, fatigue, and high dropout rates. Previous efforts to construct a four-unit classroom block several years ago could not materialize, as the project was abandoned midway due to financial constraints.

In a significant turnaround, Hon. Emmanuel Jackson Aguma announced during the ceremony that the government has now allocated full funding for the construction of a modern six-unit classroom block for the Pampatia community. The project, he revealed, is expected to be completed within six months to bring long-awaited educational relief to the area.

Speaking at the event, the DCE described the project as a demonstration of government’s commitment to bridging the educational infrastructure gap between urban and rural areas. He emphasized that education remains a top priority of the government and that no community should be left behind in providing access to quality learning facilities.

“For too long, the children of Pampatia have been denied a fundamental right — the right to education within their own community. Today marks a new beginning. The government has heard your cry, and we are determined to ensure that every child in Pampatia will soon have a decent classroom to learn in,” Hon. Aguma said passionately.

He further called on the people of Pampatia to support the contractor and take ownership of the project by safeguarding the facility once completed. According to him, the Assembly will continue to prioritize educational development, as it remains the most effective tool for community transformation and poverty reduction.

The contractor, Mr. Elvis Nyantakyi, Chief Executive Officer of Jobess Excel Ventures, assured the DCE and the community that his company is well-prepared to complete the project within the agreed timeframe. He pledged to maintain high construction standards, using quality materials to ensure that the school remains durable and fit for purpose.

“I want to assure the people of Pampatia that we will deliver this project on time and according to specifications. Education is the foundation of development, and we take pride in being part of this historic effort to bring lasting change to this community,” Mr. Nyantakyi assured.

The news of the school’s construction has been warmly received by the Pampatia Traditional Council, led by the Otumfuo Brempon Nana Opoku Oware Katakyie. The revered chief expressed profound gratitude to the government and the District Assembly for responding to the community’s long-standing appeal. He described the development as a dream fulfilled for the people of Pampatia.

“For years, our children have had to endure long and unsafe journeys just to get an education. Some of them gave up along the way, and parents were deeply worried. Today, we are thankful that our cries have finally been heard. This project is a blessing, and it will forever change the future of our children,” Nana Katakyie remarked joyfully.

He also urged parents to take advantage of the new facility once completed by enrolling their wards and supporting teachers in ensuring that learning outcomes improve across the community.

The construction of the six-unit classroom block forms part of broader efforts by the Afigya Kwabre North District Assembly to enhance access to quality education and reduce infrastructural deficits in deprived communities. It also aligns with the government’s commitment to expanding educational infrastructure nationwide as part of its “Education for All” agenda.

As the project gets underway, excitement and optimism fill the air in Pampatia. Parents, teachers, and opinion leaders believe that the new school will not only ease the burden on families but also inspire a renewed commitment to education, paving the way for future leaders to emerge from the once-overlooked community.

The beginning of construction signifies more than just a new building — it represents hope, progress, and the promise of a brighter future for the children of Pampatia, who can now dream of learning and thriving within their own community after years of appeals and anticipation.
